#9 CATCHING AND MEASURING THE QUALITY OF SPRINGS

ALTIS aims to have 80 catchments by 2035, many of them in the next few years. Although the principle remains the same, each catchment is different in terms of its location, type of source, flow rate, etc. However, they all have one thing in common: they are often only structures without intelligent technology and do not indicate the quality of the water that enters them.

ISSUE

ALTIS now wants to be able to easily and cost-effectively install the right catchment for every situation. Current catchments are not equipped to take the desired remote measurements (water quality, flow rates, etc.). The catchment of the future should integrate this remote measurement functionality and allow information and data to be sent back to the source, which is often very remote and not equipped with electricity.

Gaps in information gathering and reporting mean that pollution is currently difficult to prevent and detect.

DESIRED AREAS OF INNOVATION

  • Ability of the sensors to transmit data even in remote locations without electricity. The Altis LoRa network is available, as well as the 4G network.
  • Cost control. Many sensors already exist, but they are financially unaffordable with the large number of sources to be equipped. Intelligence can help to reduce these costs with less precise sensors.
  • Integration of sensors and other systems to take the desired measurements and data and receive them within a short period of time, ideally with a real-time overview of the water quality
  • The water quality measurement system must be scalable and adaptable to future sensor developments.
